: .
: : Thanks, man.
: : I am not sure if it is possible from technical perspective. Also, if you look at the story line, most of the TC is like covert operations. After all, it is "Suicide Missions", remember? The IL-2 support will only apply to 2 of 3 levels of "Stalingrad" episode. So, I am not sure if the efforts would be justified, even if it was doable.
: : If you are interested in WW2 aviation, e-mail me, and I'll send you some cool links. Even though IL-2 was a great plane, it was not the only Russian plane used in the war and, certainly, not the one used by highest scoring Allied aces, which happened to be Russians.
: : Eric.
: It is possible because I got strafed by Wocke-Wulfs or something in a couple of missions. I realize that the IL-2 was not used by the aces, but I mentioned it because it was the best Russian (and probably the best overall) close support plane and tankbuster of the war. I don't think that very many Yak-3s were used to kill tanks.
: PS. I did put a link to your site from my WWII GI site.
Thanks for the link. I saw it on your site. BTW, nice site. Maybe, we'll try implementing IL-2 support in the Stalingrad episode.
You are right, IL-2 was extremely successful as a ground attack plane, mainly because it was designed as such from the very beginning. Yak-3 was probably the best low-to-medium altitude dogfighter of the war. It would be waistful to emloy it for ground attacks. Strangely enough, the leading Russian aces did not fly it. Kozhedub flew La-5 and later La-7, and Pokryshkin flew P-39 Airacobra. However, the leading French ace, Marcel Albert, flew the Yak-3.
Eric.
